Award winning architect Lene Tranberg takes us to the heart of Copenhagen, Stræderne. Funnily, it is here – in one of the oldest neighborhoods of the Danish capital – that her idea of modern architecture was formed.
Watch the young and beautiful mixing with the old and worn, enjoying their lives, relaxing with friends in the sun, and going on their way. It’s all about a combination of connectivity and privacy, says Lene Tranberg: “You will find all these layers of information about crafts and caring. In a way it is a social architectural program for caring about people.” It is an urban landscape, a typography, where you can be an individual even though you are related, she explains
Lene Tranberg (b.1956) is the head architect and co-founder of Lundgaard & Tranberg. The firm gained prominence after the turn of the millennium with a number of high-profile buildings in Copenhagen, including most notably the Tietgenkollegiet student residences and the Royal Danish Playhouse. In parallel with her career as a practising architect, Tranberg began teaching at the Royal Academy of Architecture in 1986 and was employed there as a lector from 1989 to 1998. She has also held numerous positions in the world of Danish architecture, including CEO of the Danish Architecture Centre from 1998 to 2002.
