In this tutorial, you’ll learn the best and easiest methods for using Grasshopper to model the Aqua Tower in Chicago, designed by Studio Gang Architects. We’ll start by setting up a basic rectangle, and move on to defining its fluid structure using Simplex Noise, which is the main focus of this tutorial. You’ll get to understand what it is and the best ways to utilize it. We’ll wrap up the video by creating wavy-like floors and a facade.
In the extended version of this tutorial, we are going to continue building up our project. We are specifically going to focus on bringing more realism to the building by making glass panels on the facade, adding 3D frames to each panel, and railings on the balconies. Also, we will use some advanced techniques to fix issues that we will encounter along the way such as orienting all glass surfaces toward the outside, unifying their UV directions, and unifying Mesh faces that can not be done with a simple component.
