What is AI? And why has it become such a hot topic in architectural design circles? This lecture offers an introduction to the use of neural networks in architecture, arguably the first genuinely C21st design technique. It explains how neural networks operate, and is illustrated with some of the most stunning examples of AI generated design work. The lecture goes on to question whether – from a theoretical perspective – artificial intelligence might offer us some insight into the nature of human intelligence, and the way in which the mind of the architect operates.
