TEDxBigApple – Chris Downey – New Vision in Architecture

Chris Downey takes us on a trip to work from the perspective of a man who recently lost his sight and relates his non-visual senses to the world of architecture.

Chris is an architect, planner, and consultant who lost his sight in 2008. Today, he is dedicated to creating more helpful and enriching environments for the blind and visually impaired. His 20-year career has encompassed a broad range of award-winning projects from custom residences to Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, MN, and the MIT’s Rotch Architectural Library.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
