How can you make the sum of 19 billion euros tangible? What is the proportion of that amount of money to spaces in which we live in? How big is a city that can be built with this sum?
Diana Contiu studies architecture at the Technical University of Vienna. Together with Lukas Zeilbauer she is the co-initiator of Hypotopia – Milliardenstadt, an entirely student-run project that investigates and visualizes how much the 19 billion euro paid by Austrian taxpayers to bail out Hypo Bank is really worth. The project has opened her eyes to the value of civil courage and peaceful protest through proactive, interdisciplinary collaboration.
