In today’s SketchUp quick tutorial, I’m going to teach you how to take a material and make it transparent.
Pretty much any time you want to edit the attributes of a material, you’re going to start with the materials section of your tray. If you don’t see it, go up to window, tray, and make sure “materials” is checked.
Now select the material you’d like to make transparent. In this case, we’re going to use the eye dropper tool to select our material.
Now go over to the edit tab. The edit tab is where most of your material’s information lives. If you look at the bottom of the edit tab, you can see there’s an option for “Opacity.”
By dragging this slider left and right, you can set how opaque or transparent a material is.
You can also use this slider to edit how well you can see through SketchUp’s default glass materials.
Finally, you can import images as textures and edit their opacity as well, so if you want to import a sky image, you can adjust its opacity and use it as a window material.
That’s where I’m going to end today’s video.
